Beginners Classes are on Fridays, approximately 8.00 to 10.00 p.m., and are held in Southcote. The enrolment period is open all year. The Beginners course takes approximately 12 weeks, during which time the basic moves will be taught. During the first few weeks, about ten moves will be taught and repeated with further moves being added each week.
Experienced members will be there to help so if there is anything about which new dancers are unclear or confused, they only have to ask, no-one will mind, and everyone has been a beginner. We are happy to offer individual guidance and explain any move that is causing a problem.
For those who wish to arrive earlier than 8 o'clock, they are welcome to come at 7.30 p.m. and watch the more experienced dancers go through their paces.
The Club colours are blue and white, although other colours are welcome.
Regarding technique, this will improve if dancers follow the traditions of square dance dress. It is suggested that ladies wear skirts rather than trousers. If ladies wish to concentrate on learning the gentlemen's moves, trousers are quite acceptable. Alternatively the wearing of a diagonal sash is encouraged.
